Cherry Creek
The shopping district, the creek trail, and the most expensive condominiums and townhomes in Denver.
Pricing trends
Cherry Creek sets the top of the Denver attached-home market, with new townhomes and the newest towers at prices per square foot found nowhere else in the city. Older 1970s and 1980s condominiums near the shopping center and in Cherry Creek East offer entry points well below the new construction.

About Cherry Creek
Cherry Creek is Denver's luxury district: the sixteen blocks of galleries, restaurants and boutiques of Cherry Creek North, the Cherry Creek Shopping Center across First Avenue, and the condominium towers and townhomes that surround them. It draws buyers who are done with yards and want to walk to dinner, the gym and the creek trail, and it is where many of the metro's highest per-square-foot sales occur.
Location
The neighborhood runs from University Boulevard east to Colorado Boulevard and from 6th Avenue south to the creek and Alameda Avenue, with Country Club and Congress Park to the north and west, Hilltop to the east and Washington Park a short ride southwest. Downtown is about three miles northwest along Speer Boulevard.
History and background
Where it sits. Cherry Creek is a central Denver neighborhood just east of downtown, between East Sixth Avenue and Cherry Creek/Alameda Avenue, and between University Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard.
Long before the shops, this was the town of Harman. The town was incorporated in the 1880's, built a town hall and a schoolhouse that was renamed Bromwell in 1906, and had farms and greenhouses. Residents even formed a bicycle club in the 1890's.
After the Panic of 1893 hit hard, Harman folded into Denver in 1894. Much later, developer Temple Buell built the Cherry Creek Shopping Center in the early 1950's, and the Tattered Cover bookstore moved in during 1974.
Why people like it. People like Cherry Creek for the 16-block Cherry Creek North district of locally owned and national shops and restaurants, the bike path along the creek, Manley and Pulaski Parks, and events like the Cherry Creek Arts Festival each July and the Cherry Creek Sneak race in April.
Fun fact. Harman residents formed a bicycle club in the 1890's to encourage cycling on the area's bike paths.
Sources and caveats for this history
Housing and architecture
Cherry Creek North has a dense mix of 1990s to brand-new townhomes, duplexes and low-rise condominiums on the blocks between 1st and 6th avenues, with luxury towers along 1st Avenue and University. East of the shopping center, Cherry Creek East holds more townhomes and small condominium buildings. Detached houses are rare and command high prices; most sales are attached homes with HOAs.
Parks and recreation
The Cherry Creek Trail runs along the neighborhood's southern edge, connecting downtown to Cherry Creek State Park by bike. Pulaski Park and the creek's banks are the local green space, and Washington Park and the Denver Country Club are nearby. The Cherry Creek Arts Festival takes over the district each July.
Dining, shopping and daily life
Cherry Creek North's streets hold more than 250 businesses: restaurants, galleries, salons, fitness studios and boutiques, with hotels and the Clayton Lane shops. The Cherry Creek Shopping Center has Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and a hundred other stores, and groceries are at the Whole Foods on 1st Avenue or the King Soopers at 9th and Colorado.
